Stanford St. Jude Championship, Round 2

With winds gusting up to 25 miles per hour, golfers had their work cut Friday at the TPC Southwind. Local Memphis golfers were flat out blown away. John Daly had a nightmare of an afternoon with an 11 over 81. 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel, will have shoulder surgery Tuesday...and can't wait. His approach on 18 was long and he missed the cut with a final round 73. Casey Wittenberg will tee off in the U.S. Open but he won't be around for the weekend on his home course after a 2nd round 73. Vance Veazey made the most of his sponsor's exemption last year tying for 10th. After a first round 69, he ballooned to 77 and missed the cut by 1.

Veazey was last years feel good story. This year it's former Ole Miss Rebel Chris Rogers. He missed the cut by one stroke but qualified for his very first PGA tour event. The 25 year old has been struggling on the Hooters tour but came out of nowhere to qualify with a 67 Monday at Windyke. He was able to get up and down on 18 to fire a 74, missing the cut at +6.

As for the big boys it's shaping up to be a weekend shootout. There's a 6 way tie for first at 3 under. Australia's Gavin Coles had the round of the day with a 6 under 64. Michael Bradley, Jason Dufner, Dean Wilson, Marc Turnesa, And Tommy Armour III are all tied with him at 3 under. He made a charge with a birdie on 9, but doubled bogeyed 18 to let everyone back in it. Armour finishing with a 2nd round 71.

Sergio Garcia is one of 25 golfers within 3 strokes of the lead after a terrific approach set up eagle on 16. It's a group that includes other big names like Davis Love III and Vijay Singh.       The wind is expected to calm down this weekend.
