Suspect charged in Starbucks carjacking, fake bomb threat

Police charged 45-year-old Walter Sampson of Olive Branch with multiple felony charges Friday.

Early Wednesday, Sampson carjacked a woman at a Starbucks drive-thru and used a fake bomb to rob a cash loan business.

Before police realized Sampson's bomb was phony, the bomb threat shut down Madison Avenue in Midtown for hours while the bomb squad investigated the suspicious package left behind in the robbery.

Sampson's carjacking victim was too afraid to show her face during an exclusive interview with Action News 5.

"I fear for my life," she said.

She recalled that Sampson showed her his gun and ordered her to act like nothing was wrong. "Walk away like nothing happened and I won't kill you," he said.

The victim is resting easier knowing her alleged attacker has been caught, but her sense of security is forever changed.

"I'm probably going to need some therapy after this," she said.
