Documents: Westwood Pool previously cited for non-working emergency phone

The Action News 5 Investigators dug up problems at one of the Memphis pools where a teenager died on May 31.

Documents show the Shelby County Health Department first inspected the Westwood Pool on May 27, when a health inspector found the emergency telephone at the pool was not working and needed repair.

The paperwork Action News 5 requested from the Health Department included a note from the inspection that read, "Do not open pool."

A Health Department inspector returned on May 30 to again check the emergency phone. The inspection report showed it was still not working, but noted a manager said it would be repaired and a cell phone would be used as a backup.

15-year-old Demavious Bailey drowned at the Westwood Pool May 31.

The Health Department scheduled a re-check for June 9, but that paperwork was not available.

Officials with the city announced Monday that all Memphis pools would remain closed indefinitely.

The investigation into the drownings continues.
