Sheriff: Fingerprints confirm escapee's identity

PONTOTOC, Miss. (AP) - Fingerprint evidence released to law enforcement concludes that a body discovered in a Pontotoc lake was that of a fourth jail escapee.

Pontotoc County Sheriff Neal Davis says Wednesday's evidence confirmed the identity of 23-year-old Michael Tharp, of Guntown - one of four men who escaped June 4 through the roof of the Pontotoc County Detention Center.

Tharp's body was discovered the lake on Monday.

He had been held in the detention center in lieu of bond pending trial on charges of possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property.

The other three escapees were recaptured last Friday.
