Skeletal remains found near Tunica

The the skeletal remains of a human body were found in a field near Tunica, Mississippi early Thursday afternoon.

Officials said a farmer made the grisly discovery - a human skull- while walking in his field.  Investigators soon found more part of the skelton, scattered approximately 100 yards apart.

Tunica County Sheriff K.C. Hamp said investigators were not sure how long the remains had been there.

"We are in the process of investigating," he said. "The only thing we have is animals that have taken boy parts to and from."

Hamp said officials believe the remains were those of a woman.

"Because of the size of the skull, we think it may be a female, but we won't know until the pathologist takes a look at the human remains."

Hamp said there is currently only one woman missing from the Tunica County area, but it was too early to know if the body discovered belonged to her.
