Grizzlies introduce new players to the city

The Memphis Grizzlies made the fifth pick in the NBA draft, then made a huge trade around Midnight.

It is being called one of the most exciting drafts in Memphis Grizzlies history because of two trades that are bringing two of the biggest and most talented players in the NBA draft to the Bluff City.

An excited O.J. Mayo, who could turn into the Grizzlies franchise player, insists he is humbled to play with his new teammates.

"Rudy Gay is a great player. Hakeem Warrick, those guys I've been looking up to for a long time. So for me to get an opportunity to play with them it's a dream," Mayo said.

The 6-4 USC guard was the third overall pick Thursday night and came to Memphis after a late night trade with Minnesota.

Memphis Tiger fans may remember Darrell Arthur from the national championship game. The 6-9 power forward scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds that night.

He hopes Memphians can forgive.

"Don't hate me too much. I was just doing what I was told," Arthur said.

A trade with Portland gave Memphis the rights to Arthur, putting together a team that will begin a new chapter for a team struggling with an identity.

"Create a culture. A culture in which we basically stress defense that becomes part of the culture of this franchise. Similar to what the Pistons did years ago," owner Michael Heisley said.

But with the additions come those that were traded away. Many Memphians will miss seeing Mike Miller's leadership on the court and his community efforts off the court as well.

He is headed to Minnesota after one of the trades last night.
