Attack along popular Midtown jogging trail

Chris Floyd hits mid-town's Greenline trail as often as she can.

"Three or four times a week," said Floyd.

Her husband and dog usually come along.  She has a new "companion" for when they stay at home.

"Actually, my husband has bought me some mace," said Floyd.

She's prepared if she runs into the kind of trouble another female jogger ran into Monday.  It was just after Noon in broad daylight.

"The time is kind of disturbing," said Floyd.

According to a police report, the woman was grabbed, pushed, then robbed of everything on her.  In an E-mail alert sent to neighbors, a friend of the victim adds she was thrown against an embankment and that the man attempted to sexually assault her.  Apparently, he had followed her by pretending to be a jogger himself.

Parts of the trail are very secluded.  There are plenty of places for someone to hide on either side.

"We recognize that crime knows no boundaries -- it's affecting us all," said Peggy Willamson.

She's chair of the recently formed Midtown Security Community.  It's a partnership with police to try and curb criminal activity.

"I think women especially have to be a little more cognizant of their surroundings and we all have to be watchful," said Williamson.

Until the creep is caught, police say Chris Floyd has the right idea by not walking alone.

Police say it is possible this guy is responsible for other assaults.  The victim described him as around five-foot-seven with wiry black hair pulled back into a pony tail.
