Child rushed to hospital on day pools re-open

Over one month after two children died at separate city pools, Memphis City Pools reopened on Wednesday, and child was rushed to the hospital after taking a big fall.

It happened at one of the same pools where a teen drowned in May.  A ten year old boy fell and hit his head late Wednesday afternoon at the Westwood Community Center Pool. He was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.

A spokesperson with the Fire Department said it was his understanding that the boy wasn't injured seriously.

A police officer told said his mother was with him, as required by the new pool rules.  The officer said he had a minor laceration to his head, and that he just slipped and fell.

Action News 5 was not allowed to talk with the pool's staff.

Children we talked with said they thought he was hurt badly.

Wednesday is the first day for the pools to reopen since 15 year old Demavius Bailey and 13 year old Cameron Hogg died at two Memphis City Pools on opening day.

The pools now have new rules requiring parents to be with children 12 and under, pool cards for everyone in the pool, and only certain ages at certain times.
