Lee celebrates legal victory at Westin hotel

You may foot the bill for Joseph Lee's legal fees. That word Wednesday night from Lee's attorney as he left a victory party for the former MLGW President.

Action News 5 never got to see if former MLGW President Joseph Lee takes his martini shaken or stirred. Folks with The Westin Hotel, and the Daily Grill, kicked us out before the party began.

But not before we were able to get a word with the man of the hour.

"Again, I'm very blessed and fortunate and certainly thankful to God for the events of this latest legal situation. We are here today to visit with friends, meet and greet, and just to enjoy it," Lee said.

Last week, federal prosecutors dropped their case against Lee.

He had been accused of giving former Memphis councilman Edmund Ford Senior a pass on his utility bills in exchange for political favor.

Accusations that ended Lee's tenure at MLGW.

"But I will say again this whole situation should have never arose," Lee said.

Lee's attorney was among those stopping by the victory party.

Robert Spence said his client may seek to have the public utility pay his legal fees.

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton toasted Lee before exiting in his Escalade.

Herenton has said he'd be happy to see Joseph Lee back on the city's payroll.

"Well, you know, you can talk to him about all of that. And we'll see where we go from there," Lee said.

For now, Lee said he simply looks forward to his future free of federal charges.
