Nelson twins help celebrate July 4th in Millington

He grew up on television. A real family with a scripted story line. Now Ricky Nelson's sons are performing in the Mid-South in his memory.

Millington celebrates Independence Day Thursday night with a free concert and fireworks and a special musical tribute to rock and roll legend Ricky Nelson.

Nelson's twin sons, Gunnar and Matthew, star in the Ricky Nelson Remembered Tour.  They will honor the troops tonight as part of the Flag City Celebration at Navy Lake in Millington tonight.

The Nelson's will be joined by the Stone Canyon band featuring legendary guitarist James Burton who played with their father and Elvis. As well as steel guitarist Jeff Skunk Baxter.

I met with the Nelson twins this morning to talk about their committment to our troops and their strong connection to the bluff city.

"Last year there were 30,000 people. Hopefully there will be more this year. You know, even if there were half of that, we're going to be thrilled," Matthew Nelson said.

Gunnar Nelson has also partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with a fundraising program called Rockfessions.  The twins visited with family and patients at the hospital yesterday.  Thursday night they take the stage to perform their father's music as well as their own hits from the 90's.

The Flag City Celebration starts at 6:00 pm.

There will be lots more music and fun throughout the evening including a fireworks display.  The event is free and open to the public.
