NEW ORLEANS (NBC NEWSCHANNEL) - A Louisiana police officer has been suspended without pay after leading officers on a high speed chase.

New Orleans police officer Donyell Sanchell, driving a black pickup truck, lead Crescent City Connection police on a chase that reached speeds of 90-miles-per hour.

The Crescent City Connection is a bridge that joins New Orleans over the Mississippi River.

The bridge has its own police department, and those officers initiated the chase.

According to police, when Sanchell did pull over he yelled at one of the officers and took off again.

Sanchell was wearing his NOPD uniform at the time but was driving his personal vehicle.

Video recorded by CCCD cameras shows the officers were nearly bumped at one point as they stood in front of Sanchell's truck.

The truck then continued to the New Orleans Police Department's First District Station on Basin Street.

Video shows an altercation shortly thereafter in which Sanchell appeared to strike one of the CCCD officers with an open hand.

"Based on the investigation conducted by the Crescent City Connection Police relative to an altercation with police officer Donyell Sancell and Crescent City Connection officers, Sancehll has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an administrative investigation by the police superintendent," said NOPD spokesman Bob Young.

Sanchell has been charged with hit and run and careless operation.

He later told officers he was speeding because he was late for work.
