Two charged after human foot found in vacant lot

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Police have charged a sister and brother with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a man whose bones were found in a vacant lot.

According to a news release from the Memphis Police Department, investigators believe 47-year-old Sheila Porter got into an argument with boyfriend Wayne Hart shortly before Christmas 2006.

Police believe the woman's brother, 46-year-old Herman Porter, shot and killed Hart because of the altercation.

Members of Hart's family later decided to dig around in a vacant lot beside Sheila Porter's house, fearing the 48-year-old Hart might be dead and buried there. On Wednesday, they found a sock full of bones and called police.

A forensic excavation of the site found a skull and most of a skeleton, and an examination of the remains determined the preliminary cause of death to be gunshot wounds.

Police were unable to say whether the Porters had attorneys.
