Byhalia man found shot to death

There is a murder mystery in Byhalia, Mississippi. Investigators said Shane Collins was found shot to death in his bed at a home on Red Banks Road.

Investigators have not charged anyone in this case but friends and neighbors feel very confident that Shane Collins was killed by someone he knew.

The serene setting on Red Banks Road was shattered when a man was found shot to death inside his home.

According to neighbors, Shane Collins lived in the trailer behind a metal barn just off Highway 178 in Desoto County. Friends said his mother found him lying in bed Thursday morning with a gunshot wound to the head.

Mike Saleh manages Taylor's corner store near the crime scene where Collins was a regular customer.

"He never had no problem with anybody. He was polite and I don't know what's the motive of it," Saleh said.

There is speculation that Collins was caught up in a love triangle that turned deadly, but investigators have not confirmed that.

The sheriff's department remains very tight lipped about the investigation.  But Sheriff Bill Rasco did say that no one is in custody for the crime and that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is getting involved.

Meanwhile, sheriff's deputies have been standing guard around the clock at what remains an active crime scene on a quiet street where violent crime is far from the norm.

Friends of Collins said he was in his early 40's, lived in Memphis when he was younger, and graduated from Woodale High School.
