Son in custody for father's early morning murder

Memphis police are investigating an early morning murder in North Memphis where it appears a man was stabbed by his son.

Officers responded to a call around 1:00 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of T.M. Henderson.

The victim, 60-year-old Joseph Tucker, Sr., was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m.

Around 2:00 a.m., officers arrested the victim's 22-year-old son, Joseph Tucker, Jr.

Latoya Cunningham, the suspect's sister, says she found her father Saturday morning with stab wounds.

Cunningham says her brother told her he was sorry for killing their father. "He said he killed our dad and that he's sorry, and tell mom that he loves her."

Cunningham says she hopes her brother is given the psychiatric help he needs.

"He just said it had to be done. He said 'I'm sorry but it had to be done'," said Cunningham.

Tucker, Jr. has been in trouble with the law before: court records show he was arrested last year for domestic assault and bodily harm, and two years ago for aggravated assault. Though in custody for questioning, Tucker has not been officially charged.

Tucker, Sr. is survived by his wife of 35 years, four children and five grandchildren.
