Police bust sophisticated credit card ring

Memphis Police may have busted a sophisticated credit card ring Monday afternoon at an east Memphis hotel.

Late in the afternoon, police continued to comb a rented Chevy Trailblazer in the parking lot of a Courtyard By Marriott at Kirby and Mt. Moriah, at one point polling out a bag full of what may have been cleverly manufactured credit cards.

Police say up to five people may have been using the cards across the city, with the Courtyard By Marriott as their latest stop.

Officials at the scene remained said the five suspects are from out west, and have been targeting the Mid-South for an undetermined amount of time.  According to investigators, a clerk apparently called police when the suspects tried to use a phony credit card to pay for a room at the hotel.

Late Monday afternoon, officials said two of the five suspects remained at large.  A description of the suspects has not been released, and officials have not said what other businesses in the area may have fallen victim to what they called the operation.
