Hundreds of people signed a petition trying to save it, even raising money to try to keep the building standing. But despite alumni efforts, demolition crews will soon bring down the old Rosemark School in Tipton County.
All last week, Rosemark alumni had the chance to walk the halls of the 96-year-old school one last time, bidding on items from inside. From old desks to lockers and other items, Rosemark alumni took one last walk through of the historical school building last week.
For many, the school's pending demolition brought about feelings of nostalgia.
"I can't tell you how many times I've run down this hallway or been yelled at right here," said alumnus Scott Jones, a 2002 graduate of the school. "Just all kinds of stuff. It still smells the same too."
"It's a very sad day, knowing that all this is coming down and alumni will never be able to come home again," said 1987 graduate Jay Forbess.
One thousand bricks from the school's outside will be sold as mementoes of the old building.
Crews spent Monday removing asbestos from the old building. They are set to begin the actual demolition of the Rosemark school later this week.
