Police investigate shooting in Savannah, TN

One person was killed in a shooting Tuesday morning in Savannah, Tennessee.

Officials said the shooting happened at the Savannah Furniture Exchange, located in on Water Street in the small Hardin County town.

Witnesses said the victim, Charles Garrett, was found dead moments later in his truck.  Witness Billy Wayne Norman said Garrett was shot to death by Ken Qualls, the owner of the furniture store.

"He took out a pistol and shot him right on the side of the head," Norman said.

Witnesses said Qualls was accused of murder 15 years ago, but was found not guilty.  Police would not release any names, but did confirm one person was taken into custody.

"I couldn't believe it, this close to the jail and everything," said witness Jimmy Ward.  "It didn't seem like it could happen this close."

Garret's family said he worked at the furniture store on and off his entire life.  At the scene, his father-in-law said he didn't know of any problems Garrett had with his boss.
