Elderly couple back at home after being robbed at gunpoint

An 87-year-old man and his 94-year-old wife are still scared after a masked man burst into their home over the weekend waving a gun.

Nathaniel Taylor and his wife Lula Bell were back in their Tipton County home Tuesday, just two days after someone walked into their house waving a handgun.

"I'm sort of scared, you know that man jumping on me and grabbing the shotgun - I was keeping down and I had to get him up," Nathaniel Taylor said

"It did scare me because I'm 94-years-old - in fact, it got on my nerves," Lula Bell added.

Lula Bell said she was in the front room of the house with her grandson when a man wearing a ski mask walked through the front door.

"It scared me, because I didn't know who he was, she said

Nathaniel Taylor said after the gunman came into the front room of the house, he walked around the corner into his bedroom, where he was lying on the bed.  Taylor said the gunman then put a gun into his face.

He then took his gun and left.

Taylor and her husband have only been married 4 years, and have no idea who would do such a thing.  Tipton Co Sheriff's investigators said it probably was not a random act, because the suspect was wearing a mask.

"That would be an indication that someone they could possibly encounter in that residence might be recognized," said Donna Turner of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department.

Nevertheless, authorities are asking for help in solving a crime that left an elderly couple shaken, and wondering whether or not it will happen again.

If you have any information on who may have robbed the couple, call the Tipton Co Sheriff's Department at 901-475-3300.
