MY TURN: Costly diversions

You may have heard people talk about getting lost on rabbit trails. Rabbit trails are those diversions that go here there and everywhere and pretty much lead to nowhere. When our government officials get lost on these rabbit trails, of course, they're spending your hard-earned money - our tax dollars. And there are a couple of costly rabbit trails to talk about this week.

Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin is probably taking the City of Memphis on a road to nowhere, as he tries to uncover the identity of anonymous Internet bloggers who have been critical of his administration. I say "probably" since Godwin hasn't yet publicly explained the reasons for his actions.

And talk about a rabbit trail, how about the mayor of Bartlett, Keith McDonald? His pursuit of the local dance studio with the stripper poles has now cost the City of Bartlett $20,000 in cash. I wouldn't be surprised if the citizens of Memphis end up paying the anonymous bloggers before it's all over.

Hey guys, if you want to get lost chasing rabbits, do it with your own money.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
