Cards Carpenter Smooth in Redbirds Rehab

One advantage of having Triple-A-Baseball in Memphis is the opportunity to see some Big Leaguers come to the local ballyard...

That's the case Friday night as St. Louis Cardinals Hurler Chris Carpenter makes a rehab start with the Redbirds against the Tacoma Raineers at AutoZone Park.

Carpenter, a former Cy Young award winner..is trying to comeback from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow...

The Cardinals hurler fighting the Memphis heat, but he was on fire to start this one, striking out the first three batters he faced.

Carpenter was held to a strict 80-pitch count, actually coming out after 78...

He goes 5 and 2 thirds, allowing 2-runs on four hits while striking out 5.

The birds lose this one 3-zip, but the Cardinals could be big winners with a reconstructed Carpenter back in the starting rotation.

Carpenter says:

"I felt good about what I did tonight. We'll get together with coach..see how we're doing..then figure out what's next.">

No word whether Carpenter will get another rehab start in Memphis.

The Redbirds continue their series with Portland Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
