Head coach Tommy West spoke to the Tiger Scholarship fund luncheon this afternoon for the last time before practice for the upcoming season gets cranked up. Of course, the topic of discussion always leads back to donations.
West says to keep the program moving forward, it needs an upgrade in facilities on South Campus. He says he'd like to get the indoor practice facility re-done with the same kind of field turf they play on at the Liberty Bowl. Air conditioning might be nice too.
West says the weight room, renovated several years ago, is really lacking compared to other area schools...even the outdoor practice fields could use a makeover.
'Our study found that other schools in our conference are pouring a lot of money into their football programs. Central Florida has spent 70 million in the last 5 years. We need new video equipment because that effects our game preparation. Our weight room is badly behind. All the other schools have remodelled since 2000. Ours was last done in 1988.'
The baseball stadium (Nat Buring) is currently undergoing a 3 million dollar renovation, thanks to Fed-Ex. To do the things West is talking about for the Football program would cost between $4-6 million.
