Delivery men locked in truck following daring robbery

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A pair of delivery men were locked in their truck following a daring robbery in southeast Shelby County.

It happened behind the Bennington Mini-Mart on Riverdale Road, where the last thing the two delivery men from Forrest City saw after they were robbed was the doors of their truck closing behind them.

Investigators said the two men were forced into the back of their vehicle it at gunpoint.  Amid the intense heat, they yelled and beat on the truck's door.  Because of their remote location a store in an alley, no one immediately heard them.

After 30 minutes, a beer truck from D. Canale drove up to make a delivery. The driver heard the men, and let them out.

Investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department said the suspects stole more than $1,000 worth of cigarettes out of the delivery men's truck.

"Cigarettes are targeted. That's a quick sale on the black market," said department spokesperson Steve Shular. "They can get rid of those things very quickly and that's exactly what happened here."

"Apparently those folks knew exactly what they were looking for."

Investigators said the two suspects took off in a black SUV.

Even though it was hot, the two delivery men locked inside their truck are okay.
