Millington officers take dozens to jail in early morning operation

An undercover drug operation in Millington has led police to seize 97 vehicles and make over 200 arrests in the past three years. At the crack of dawn Monday morning, dozens more got a knock on the door as Millington officers served 41 people warrants and took them to jail.

Police described them as "street level drug dealers," pushing everything from marijuana to heroin, meth and ecstasy.

Investigators said many of the suspects pushing drugs in Millington are from Memphis, Tipton County, and other parts of Shelby County.

"We've had significant decreases in some of the crimes up here. I attribute that to taking some of these people out and taking them to jail," Millington Police Chief Rick Jewell said.

Jewell said the police operation has resulted in a big drop in burglaries and auto thefts in Millington.

Officers said the arrests Monday morning were the result of a nine month undercover operation.
