It doesn't matter that the Ole Miss Rebels are just doing shadow drills in shorts and head gear...
The excitement level is off the chain in Oxford with New Head Coach Houston Nutt taking over the Football Program..
Over the next Month Nutt will try to mold the Rebels in his image..
The Houston Nutt era in Oxford has kicked off!
Gone are two-a-days under the grueling sun.
Instead its film work, followed by a walk through in the morning and a regular practice at night.
"I want to take them where they haven't been before. Have they won an SEC game? No. Bowl game? No. So it's kind of sad when you don't have any positive experiences to draw on."
But the talent is there...thin at some positions but deep at others.
Nutt likes the defensive line and rightfully so.
After a 3 year wait, 340 pound Jerrell Powe is finally allowed to play.
Add him to the mix with pre-season All-Americans, Greg Hardy and Peria Jerry...they're gonna stop the run.
"Peria is our motor and I just want everyone to follow after him."
Jerry is ranked the 5th best defensive tackle in the country by Lindy's.
While the defense will keep the Rebels in some games this year, the offense is a BIG QUESTION MARK.
A lot of weight rests on Texas quarterback transfer Jevan Sneed to move them downfield.
He will have big Michael Oher blocking for him.
The Memphian is considered a top 10 pick in next years NFL draft.
Running back Cordera Eason is ready to run behind him now that Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis graduated.
Easy can't wait to get on the field:
"I've waited 2 years for this. And it was frustrating but I didn't show it."
Houston Nutt says one of the theme's for this year's team is "just finish" in the classroom and on the field. He says the guy who turns in his homework, is the same guy you can count on on 3rd and 8.
The Rebels open against the Memphis Tigers August 30th in Oxford.
