Memphis to create high school for older students

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - In a move to improve the safety of city schools, Memphis School Board members plan to send students who are older than their grade peers to a separate high school.

The plan was announced at a school board work session Thursday night.

It includes an 11-month schedule and evening classes to help older students finish work toward their diplomas.

Under the plan, which is still under discussion, students who are older than their peers in any high school grade would be grouped by grade level at Frayser High School, beginning this fall.
