Hundreds line up for free school supplies

Hundreds of Mid-South parents lined up Friday in Memphis to get free school supplies for their children, but demand was so great the supplies ran out before the line did.

M.J. Edwards and Sons Funeral Home on Elvis Presley handed out the supplies to excited area youngsters and their parents.  From backpacks to notebooks, pens and pencils, the gesture was very much appreciated.

"I think this is a beautiful thing they are doing. Helping the community. Being that people are struggling. So I think this is a great thing," parent Aleshia Washington said.

"I was able to see that there was a need for this, and it gives me a wonderful feeling to be able to service the community like this," Wendell Naylor of M.J. Edwards said.

The staff at M.J. Edwards said they were expecting to supply about 500 people, but more than 700 people showed up.
