Stovall Out of the Pool in the Olympics After Strong Swim to Beijing

Memphian Gil Stovall's Olympic run is over in the pool.

Stovall comes up 1-100th of a second off the time needed to qualify for the Finals in the Men's 200 Meter Butterfly.

Stovall finished second in his Heat earlier this afternoon with a 1:55.42.

But out of 6 Heats on the night it was the 7th fastest time overall, barely qualifying him for a semifinal.

In the Semis, Stovall, the NCAA Record Holder who prepped at Ridgeway High School, swam a 1:55.36..

But as i said, that time is 1-100th of a second off what he needed to qualify for the Finals.

American Michael Phelps is the top qualifier for the finals in his quest for an unprecedented 8-gold medals.
