It's been less than a week since Action News 5 first showed you photos of Janis Fullilove slumped over the armrest of her car in a Tunica casino parking lot.  They were taken the night before she admitted to me a dependence on pain killers.

"Because I'm in a lot of pain -- I am," Fullilove told us.

But she says the pills do not get in the way of her duties at Memphis City Hall.  In a letter sent to fellow council members, Fullilove writes "While the medication does have its side effects, it does not prevent me from competently performing my duties as an elected official."

She goes on to say "I respect that the media works to hold elected officials accountable but it is unfortunate when all the facts are not reported."

Among the facts Action News 5 has reported is Fullilove's arrest in March for driving under the influence of prescription pills.

"We went to high school together," says political analyst and former city attorney Larry Moore.

He knows Fullilove well.

"She's dealing with this straight-forward," says Moore.  "She understands there have been some problems," he adds.

He believes the letter may be Fullilove's way to quell any concerns on the council.

"In politics, if you have enough people who believe you, you're okay," says Moore.  "If not, you may have some problems," he adds.

"Ya'll keep praying for me," Fullilove told us last week.

In her letter, she says she will work to help prevent future hype.
