Puppy set on fire dies; accused abusers appear in court

Two young men accused of setting a puppy on fire appeared in court Thursday, one day after that puppy died.

Police say Tristan Hataway and Vincent Boykin tied a gasoline soaked rag around the dog's neck and set her on fire.

The puppy, named Hope, initially responded to treatment, but veteranarians said her injuries were just too severe, putting her to sleep Wednesday.

Hataway and Boykin both appeared in court Thursday, where their case was continued for two weeks.

Both are in custody - Hataway is being held on $100,000 bond, while Boykin is being held on $65,000 bond.

Both men have previous criminal records.
