Jury deliberating negligence charges in baby death

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A jury in Memphis began deliberations Thursday in the death of a 5-month-old boy in his family's hot van.

Gerald Janowski told jurors he and his wife had both thought their son Caleb was asleep in his bedroom after a family outing.

Janowski told the court of the hectic day in September 2005 when he and his wife Jill Janowski took Caleb and their other three children to their soccer games and shopping.

Janowski testified both parents thought the other had removed the infant from a third-row seat and brought him into their home in Cordova.

Both parents are charged with criminally negligent homicide.

The prosecutor argued Thursday morning that good people can commit crimes.

The defense told jurors bad things can happen without a crime being committed.
