Officers go in search of those not paying child support

Sheriff's deputies spread out with a list of names of people who have not paid child support.

The man who lived in a house is in Parchman Penitentiary in Mississippi on a parole violation.

The next house had no lights on.

The officers went inside and checked around and found out the utilities had been turned off. It was vacant.

The next house was boarded up.

It didn't take officers long to realize the target was not inside. No one was.

"They could be at their brothers house or anywhere else," an officer said.

Investigators said Shelby County has thousands of warrants for people who have not paid child support. Many more than anywhere else in the state.

"We have 115,000 child support cases the arrears owed on those $575 million, a half a million in child support arrears. $6,300 in child support warrant. Those owe collectively $143 million," Mitch Morgan of Shelby County Juvenile Court said.

Shelby Co. Sheriff Mark Luttrell said round ups like the one Thursday evening are designed to send a message to people who do not pay child support.
