Homeowners win battle to save trees

GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) - A group of Germantown homeowners are declaring victory in a battle over trees with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Last week, Action News 5 reported the TVA wanted to cut down at least seven trees in a Germantown neighborhood.  While it is not officially a done deal yet, homeowners said Monday they have reached a compromise with TVA.
While there has been no formal written agreement, we are told TVA officials plan to allow Jeff and Dana Hay to keep three of seven trees on their property.  The Hay's neighbor, Stacey Ferguson, will be allowed to keep her oak tree.

TVA spokesperson Gil Francis said the trees are far enough away from a power line and don't pose a hazard, therefore the neighbors will be allowed to keep them.

The only requirement is that the residents will have to keep the trees trimmed by a licensed contractor at their own expense.

The trees also cannot be more than 10 feet tall or be within 200 feet of a power line.
