Body found in north Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A man walking his dog discovered a body Tuesday morning in a wooded area near Whitney and Steele in north Memphis.

According to Memphis Police Department spokesperson Monique Martin, the body is that of a female, but investigators are not sure the age of the victim, or how long the body was there before it was discovered.

Investigators have not determined if foul play was involved in the person's death, but are investigating the find as a suspicious death, Martin added.

Just one block away, a Frayser family last week filed a missing person's report on their 16-year-old daughter.  Family members said Jaliesha Dickerson would sometimes use a short cut to get to Frayser High School, right down the road.

Dickerson has been missing since last Thursday, but late Tuesday afternoon, police were not tying the two cases together.

Meanwhile, Diane Dickerson, Jaliesha's aunt, said the family was clinging to hope.

"My sister, she's holding up, but like I said, the news of the body they found over there - she just broke down, and she couldn't talk to nobody,"she said. "We are worried sick."

Officials said the body was taken to the Shelby County Medical Examiner's office, where a cause of death will be determined.
