Neighbors complain ex-Tiger's dogs are creating a problem

(MEMPHIS, TN) WMC-TV - Neighbors of ex-Tiger star Lorenzen Write, upset about the basketball player's dogs, have complained to county officials.

Wright, who now plays in the NBA, is currently raising nearly a dozen champion Rottweilers on his property in Eads.  Wright, who has raised similar dogs for years, has a website that showcases his animals and the awards they have won.

Judy Knoop, whose property sits next to Wright's, has a problem with the animals.

"I'm afraid for my grandchildren. Just the fact that they are there and they sound so vicious," neighbor Judy Knoop said.

In an interview Tuesday, Knoop said she cannot see the dogs, but she knows they are there.  Other neighbors, who did not want to talk on camera, said they are also afraid of the Rottweilers, because they smell and are loud.

Recently, one of Wright's neighbors complained to the Shelby County division of the USDA.  After the complaint, an investigator visited Wright's property and found a problem - the enclosures are in a flood plain.

After the inspection, Wright received a letter telling him to move the kennels.

Tuesday, Wright said he has since talked with the investigator.

"I'm moving them right now," he said. "I just had a guy here this morning. I got another guy on his way now."

Because he is currently in contract negotiations, Wright was hesitant to comment further on the matter.

However, he said, he previously attempted to build an enclosure around the dogs, but stopped after a neighbor complained.
