Resources for Volunteers

The American Red Cross Mid-South Chapter needs volunteers to help welcome Gulf Coast evacuees to the Mid-South. The Red Cross will provide an hour-long training course for shelter workers. Other volunteers may assist with serving meals. Register at The Red Cross, 1400 Central Avenue, or call (901) 726-1690.

You can also donate to the hurricane victims by going to the Salvation Army page.

Volunteers interested in assisting evacuees in the shelters can also call the Shelby County Emergency Operations Center at (901) 515-2525, Volunteer Memphis at (901) 324-8799, or the Volunteer Hotline at (901) 324-8799 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Those interested in lending a hand in Northern Mississippi can call the DeSoto County Emergency Management Agency Gustav Hotline at (662) 429-8863 or (662) 429-8864. The hotline is staffed from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Memphis Animal Coalition says the Mid-South will receive about 6,000 evacuee animals as a result of Hurricane Gustav. Pets are arriving at local shelters and volunteers are needed. To volunteer, please call the West Memphis Animal Shelter at (870) 732-7599.
