Exec. order helps active-duty soldiers pay bills back home

Memphis, TN (WMC-TV) - Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen has renewed a state policy that ensures employees serving their country can still pay the bills back home.

The executive order pays up to $1,000 a month to state employees called to active duty.

"There are salary issues - obviously there can be issues with people who remain at home, we try to help with those -  but when somebody is willing to put themselves in harm's way for our country, I think we've got a job to do to make sure they don't get hurt back home because of it."

Bredesen says the salary supplement represents only a fraction of the sacrifice troops make for their families and for their country.
