Many comments came in this week regarding the hurricane evacuees who sought shelter in the Mid-South. Some people wrote to say they were embarrassed and disappointed that the evacuees were forced to deal with substandard conditions or became crime victims. Other people were outraged because some evacuees complained. Ashly Hood is one of those.
In her words:
"So there aren't enough showers and there isn't any air conditioning, but those conditions are so much better than those in New Orleans and other Louisiana cities right now. The fact is, they are lucky to have places to stay at all, and the people of Memphis who take them in are gracious. I am terribly sorry that these people were forced from their homes, but the evacuees should quit complaining or go elsewhere if they want better, higher-class conditions."
