White supremacists set to hold conference in Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis is home to the National Civil rights museum. It's where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and is the city where both the city and county mayors are African American.

Not the kind of place you'd expect to find a white supremacist conference sponsored by white supremacist and Klan member David Duke.

"They have a right to be where the city or county will allow them. Their agenda is not our agenda so we won't even know they are here," Executive Director of the NAACP Johnnie Turner said.

According to his website , David Duke, will hold his Euro International conference in Memphis on November 8th.

Kevin Kane, with the convention and visitors bureau, said his office did not book the convention. It is not clear where the conference is being held. The website said it will be in a country setting in a secure area.

Among other things, Duke will talk about the presidential election, at the November conference.

On his website, Duke said, "We will assemble to say clearly that neither black radical, Barrack Obama, nor Mr. Amnesty, John McCain truly represent the will of the American people.

Duke said Memphis was chosen because it is one of the most centrally located cities in the U.S. and is a major airline hub.
