We're now less than five months away from the Big Switch to digital television. On February 17 of the next year, WMC-TV 5 and others stations across the country will turn off our analog television transmitters and rely exclusively on the new digital transmitters which we've installed in advance of this broadcasting milestone.
The change was mandated by the federal government and this week, Commissioner Deborah Tate from the Federal Communications Commission is in Memphis to hold a public hearing to help increase awareness of the transition to digital.
The important thing to remember about the transition is that people who receive television by rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna will need to take action prior to February 17. Even people with cable or satellite may have some TV sets in their homes that are not hooked up to the subscription services.
We'll keep providing many reminders of the Big Switch between now and February and you can find more information about this on our website, www.WMCTV.com.
