The Memphis Grizzlies are back for....hard to believe....their 8th season in the Bluff City. There's nothing like media day to get your yucks in when hope springs eternal. Kyle Lowry joked around, playing the role of photographer while Marc Gasl made a trick shot high off the glass.
It's a young, enthusiastic team this year. The average age is just 24. O.J. Mayo is already being touted as a candidate for rookie of the year. Gasol, the Spanish League MVP, is also a rookie. What will the finished product be?
Veteran Antoine Walker is here to help show the young guys a thing or two. But make no mistake, this is 22 year old Rudy Gay's team as he get ready to enter his 3rd NBA season.
"I think we're gonna surprise some people."
Gasol stressed patience, "We need to fight for the ball and rebound. But most importantly we need to get to know each other."
Genereal Manager Chris Wallace and head coach Mark Iavaroni have done a complete make-over in a little over a year on the job.
"This is a totally new team. It's the beginning of a new era. Some of the players we've had in the past we've decided to commit to for the future," said Iavaroni.
Their first practice is Tuesday morning at FedExForum.
