CRITTENDEN COUNTY, AR (WMC-TV) - It sounds like something out a dream, money flying all over the interstate. Up for grabs for anyone who could catch it. But it wasn't a dream, it really happened Friday in Crittenden County.
Almost $30,000 in 100 dollar bills went floating all over the road Thursday afternoon.
Investigators said drivers were pulling over and grabbing the money. Most of it has disappeared but one man found $3,900 and turned it in.
The cash was in a money bag found by the side of the road.
Investigators also found two $10,000 money wrappers minus the cash.
The cash ended up on the interstate after it flew off a truck owned by Louisiana businessman Carter Craft who had just made a stop at a Crittenden County scrap metal business.
"Mr. Craft tied down his truck and put his bag on top of his truck. His driver didn't know it. When he took off it fell off on the interstate," business owner Matt Odom said.
Witnesses said clothing and money were scattered all over the interstate.
"It's real frustrating. I don't know if I wouldn't have picked up the $20,000 off the side of the road if I saw it," Craft said.
That doesn't mean he doesn't want his money back.
An attorney told Action News 5 if you pick up money that is not yours you cannot keep it. If no one claims it might end up in your hands, but you can't just keep it.
