Memphis church goes pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - A Memphis church was all decked out in shades of pink Sunday morning in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

At New Olivet Baptist Church, the choir and 200 women in the congregation donned bright pink, fuschia and rose versions of their Sunday best.

Rev. Kenneth Whalum sported a pink suit.
Whalum and his wife Sheila are dedicating October at New Olivet to women.
With mammography screenings in West Tennessee among the lowest in the country, they hope awareness will help with early detection.
Research shows women who learn they have breast cancer early on have a much greater chance of survival with treatment.
