Olive Branch business finds success amid tough economy

OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - While dealing with the economic crisis can give anyone the blues, one Mid-South alternative is providing some with relief from the daily grind.

At the Andover Plantation Bed of Breakfast on Bethel Road in Olive Branch, word of mouth is the best kind of advertising.

"We deliberately did not do any advertising at first," said owner Lin Murry.  "We wanted to start slow to make sure everything was just the way we wanted it."

While Olive Branch may not be the first place you think of when it comes to a bed and breakfast, Murry said it is a great place to do business.
"It was just pure luck - I think Olive Branch found me," Murray said. "I was looking for a house to turn into a bed and breakfast, and this was the first one that presented itself that I didn't have to contend with zoning issues.

The transformed 5,000 square foot home has an English-manor interior style, five bedrooms, and comes with a guest house in the back yard.

And in tough economic times, it's located within one tank of gas for most Mid-Southerners - if a room is available.

"We've gotten guests from all over the country," Murray said. "We've had guests from England, many states - probably 15 states - but actually, we get a lot of locals, too.

According to tourism estimates, shorter trips, dubbed 'stay-cations' are preferred by travelers these days, an audience Murray hopes to continue to attract.
