MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The man accused of killing his wife - a beloved Mid-South teacher - appeared in court Thursday morning.
Prosecutors claim Jeffrey Scott brutally beat and murdered his wife, Bolton High School teacher Ashley Scott, on Thanksgiving day in 2006.
Police documents say the incident happened when the Scotts began arguing early that morning. Jeffery Scott told investigators the argument was "about a text message Ashley received on her phone."
Court documents show the fight turned physical when Jeffery Scott struck Ashley. He told investigators he then "made her sleep in the garage."
More than 12 hours, later he called 911. Ashley Scott, 28, was pronounced dead a short time later at Baptist East.
The full autopsy report states "the cause of death: blunt force injuries." Ashley had more than 50 bruises and abrasions on her head and body.
Nearly two years later, with Ashley's sister watching, Jeffrey Scott stood in court briefly Thursday for a motions hearing as lawyers on both sides prepared for trial.
"Everything's been complied with what this motion was about so there's another date in December," defense attorney Marvin Ballin said.
In the meantime Jeffrey Scott is out on bond, facing a first degree murder charge and keeping quiet.
The trial is set for January 12th. The pretrial hearing is set one month prior on December 12.
