Missing dog reunited with owner

BYHALIA, MS (WMC-TV) - A missing dog has been reunited with her owner after being gone for almost two months.  Missy, a 2-year-old Pekingese, is back on familiar ground after a journey that took her from her home in Byhalia, Mississippi to Memphis.

Missy's owner, Flossie Peyton, was grateful her dog had returned.

"I thank everybody who had anything to do with me getting my baby back," she said Wednesday.

Missy wandered from her home on September 9th.  She was soon picked up, and her journey began.

"Someone picked her up and took her to the animal shelter in Memphis," said Flossie's niece, Janice Wagg.  "The dog was accidentally given away, and we've been on a quest ever since to find the dog."

Enter Darrell Wilson was at the shelter when Missy was brought in. He was looking to surprise a friend.

"A young lady came to turn the dog in, and the Humane Society was full and wouldn't take her," he said.  "So I took her.  I was looking for a dog as a gift for a friend."

Wilson said the Humane Society gave him a contact number to return the dog, but he misplaced it.  But Missy's owners contacted Action News 5, and we were able to help everyone connect.

Wilson said it was difficult getting the dog back from his friend, as they had grown attached to Missy.  But, he said, it was the right thing to do.

"I feel great, because for a while I've been trying to give it back, but I couldn't give it back because I couldn't get in touch with them."

Now, Missy is back home among familiar surroundings, and her family couldn't be happier.

"It's a happy reunion," Wagg said.  "This dog is a companion for my aunt."
