Who says you can't fight City Hall? Actually, it was the Shelby County Commission that was the target of a dedicated group of Cordova area residents who did not want a new Wal-Mart "supercenter" in their backyard.
The residents in this neighborhood got involved, volunteering their time to insure that their voices were heard loud and clear. They were concerned about the quality of life in their community and they were will to do something about.
It got us to thinking:
- What if we applied that same level of energy to some of the other problems facing the Mid-South?
- What if parents got that worked up over the quality of education in their children's schools?
- What if we expended that kind of energy attacking the root causes of crime?
- What if we put that much effort into improving the lives of senior citizens?
It's great that this Cordova neighborhood was able to tackle an issue that people there thought was important. Let that be inspiration for the rest of us.
