MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove is now a few days into her stay at a treatment facility.
It comes after police arrested her in Tunica over the weekend for careless driving and refusing to take a DUI test.
Fullilove's husband said the councilwoman will be in a 30 day treatment facility. Some suspect, with a tumultuous past involving DUI arrests and admitted problems of abuse, Fullilove needs a longer stay at a treatment facility.
Thursday afternoon, we asked an expert at the Serenity Recovery Center, an alcohol and drug treatment facility in Memphis, if the 30 day treatment program for Janis Fullilove is enough.
"We do a shorter term treatment approach. We think we do pretty good. There's treatment centers that have people in for a year. Of course, they think their approach is going to be the best. But research shows that longer engagement better outcomes," Paula Hopper of Serenity Recovery Centers said.
Hopper went on to say that in some instances, a 30 day treatment can have a high success rate- as much as 70 percent
However, she stressed, each case is different, and there are lots of factors to determine the proper approach.
