They call it the Black and Blue Bowl, Memphis and Southern Miss. But the Tigers quarterbacking crew was already beaten up before the game even started. Both Arkelon Hall and Will Hudgens are out, possibly for the rest of the season. So bring on former Briarcrest star Brett Toney under center. The red-shirt junior got the first start of his career and quickly went to work with a 14 yard touchdown pass to Carlos Singleton in the 1st quarter. Toney finished 7-13 for 102 yards
True freshman Tyler Bass split time with Toney at quarterback and had a 14 yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter and the Tigers jumped out to a surprising 14-0 lead. Bass throws for a score as well with a perfect fade ball to Singleton in the corner of the end zone to make 20-10 Tigers at the Half.
But here's where it gets interesting/ridiculous. Late in the 3rd quarter Bass went down with a knee injury and had to leave the game. He's the 3rd Tiger quarterback injured in the last 2 games. Memphis hangs on to beat Southern Miss 36-30 but these QB injuries have got to stop!
