Surveillance video shows attack on Memphis police officer

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis police officer is recovering after being attacked Wednesday at a south Memphis gas station by two suspects and a three-year-old.

The entire incident was caught on tape by a surveillance camera, and tonight, the search is still active for one of those suspects.

Surveillance video shows the officer as he tries to arrest the driver of a white Cadillac - a man he suspects has a gun.  On the video, the suspect can be seen putting up a fight.

The two wrestle for more than a minute, and then a female passenger opens the back door, and a young boy steps out.  He makes a move at the officer, and within seconds, the man gets away, running into the neighborhood.

The officer then tries to arrest the passenger - a woman he suspects dumped evidence.  She puts up a fight, and the little boy makes another move toward the officer, at which point he backs off and waits for back-up.

The series of events drew a huge crowd of police officers to the gas station.'

"It sounds stupid to me," said nearby resident Joseph Hicks. "I mean, they can't get away with it."

The woman was eventually taken into custody, and the little boy was put in the care of relatives.

Police late received a false tip that the male suspect was in a house a few blocks away.  Wednesday night, they were still gathering evidence in the case.

The officer was not seriously injured in the incident.
