COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - A line a half dozen deep did not phase Austin McCaskill as he attempted to get gas Thursday in Collierville. The pay off was at the front of the line, where the price of the gas had dropped dramatically.
The cheap gas was at the corner of Poplar and Highway 72. In an attempt to attract customers, the station's new owner is selling regular unleaded for $1.95.
The ploy worked, as Thursday, it was the cheapest gas in town.
That was, until the station across the street dropped its price as to $1.94.
Collierville resident Janet Purnell is passing the message along: two competing gas stations on opposite corners of the same intersection are engaged in a price war - where the winners must first wait in line.
